Wat Bowonniwet Vihara is a Buddhist temple in Phra Nakhon. It is a centre of Thammayut Nikaya and enjoyed significant patronage from Chakri Dynasty. There is a golden chedi at shrine of Wat and contains ashes and relics of Thai royalty. There are 2 monasteries but remain closed to public. There is a T-shaped bot that contains a splendid Buddha from Sukothai period. It was casted in the 13th century to the mark the celebration of freedom from Khymers. Wat Bowonniwet Vihara has had considerable patronage, which is evident from the fact that Prince Bhikkhu Mongut was the first abot.
